The Hotel Königshof is scheduled for demolition at the beginning of 2019, to make way for something new. It will be replaced by the new luxury hotel Königshof on the same site, but then with ten floors and around 105 rooms and suites. The new hotel will have not only an eye-catching front: the Spanish architects Nieto Sobejano Arquitectos, under the management of Fuensanta Nieto and Enrique Sobejano, and with project manager Johannes Hanf, gained the commission for the façade as one of the three winners in the planning competition for the new Königshof. A vertical cut in the façade facing Stachus will be the outstanding stylistic element, and the spectacular room cascade will hold a vertical sequence of various lobbies, lounges and spaces with spectacular views.

A rooftop restaurant is also planned, with a panoramic view across Munich, and a spa and wellness floor. It is currently under discussion which of these areas will be made accessible to the public.

"The Geisel family is aware of the great responsibility it holds vis-à-vis its staff, guests and its own family tradition, and it is setting new standards in Germany's private hotel sector with the upcoming refurbishment," explains Ute C. Hopfengärtner, speaker of the Geisel Privathotels group. "With the investments planned for the coming years, we are sending out a clear signal for the future, for new groups of patrons and for Munich as a venue. The new Königshof will be a landmark in Munich, and attract attention from far beyond the city's boundaries."
